Koru Care Christchurch USA Trip 2010
October 2010 saw 24 excited childen winging their way to Disneyland, USA. A fun time was had by all.
Highlights were the Haunt at Knotts Scary Farm; meeting Ice Hockey legend Jarret Stoll and watching the LA Kings beat the Vancouver Canucks (Go Kings Go!) with one of our fantastic Koru Care young men, DJ, putting the puck on the ice to start the game (the equivalent in NZ would be carrying the football on to the field for the start of a Crusaders vs. Highlanders rugby game).
Other highlights included meeting Mickey and Minnie at Disneyland; riding on Disney's Space Mountain, Universal Studio's Revenge of the Mummy, Sea World's Atlantis and California Adventureland's California Screamin. We had lots of great dining experiences, including an evening meal at the Hard Rock Cafe; having a wonderful meal with Tania and her staff at Hob Nobs, on Hob Nob Hill in San Diego, dining with the animals at the Rain Forest Cafe and enjoying The Pirates Dinner Show Extravaganza (some of the Koru Care children were lucky enough to be selected to have walk-on parts in the show - Yo Ho, Yo Ho a Pirates Life for Me!).
Shopping at the Mall; a visit and photo opportunities +++ at Madame Tussards in Hollywood; and stepping into the footprints of the rich and famous on the Hollywood walk of fame, were also very popular events.
We were also super excited at Universal Studios, to see the brand new creation of kiwi Peter Jackson, the most intense 3D experience, 360 3D King Kong.
A big thank you to all those supporters of Koru Care Christchurch,
you really helped us to make dreams come true for these very special children.

2010 Auction
The 1940's themed evening held at the Air Force Museum was a huge success with just under $200,000 raised on the night!
Demand was high and tickets sold out fast, 540 people were welcomed by our hosts for the evening, Classic Hits 97.7FM Jason Gunn and Dave Fitzgerald.
The main auction which was carried out by the Australasian Auctioneer of the year, Phil McGoldrick, created a bidding frenzy right at the beginning of the night, with a Day in the Life of Rob Fyfe, selling for a whopping $16,400!!
Entertainment was plentiful with an early performance from Those 3. The dancers from St. Margaret's College Dance Company gave an amazing 1940's style dance presentation. TV3's Mike McRoberts, April Ieremia and Rob Fyfe were great sports joining in with the Hula Hoop demonstration from In 2 Hula Hoop. Koru Care Kids, Emily Johnson and Neve Billing gave a very touching and amazing performance.
Among those in attendance were Hunger for the Wild's Al Brown, Koru Care's Patron Canterbury Crusader Andy Ellis, 60 Minutes Producer Paula Penfold and MP Kate Wilkinson to name but a few.
Tracey Bruce and Courtenay Washington had everyone hitting the dancefloor at the end of the night while belting out some powerful rocking tunes.
It was fantastic to see so many guests attend dressed in attire from the 1940's.

Koru Care says thank you to Oliver Fussey
| | Congratulations to Christchurch Boys High School student, Oliver Fussey who was the school’s 2009 top achiever in Year 10. Oliver scored 65 out of a possible 70 points in the academic aspect and he earned 6 Endeavour Awards. On the sporting front, Oliver was a member of the 2009 U15A football team, the U15A cricket team and the U15A volleyball team. Oliver is also a talented guitarist and vocalist, and he has also represented the school in theatre-sports and hip hop. For the first time since the inception of the Fine Young Man Award, the Year 9 top award winner, Oliver, defended his title in Year 10. Koru Care Christchurch was the nominated beneficiary of the Year 10 Top Gold Award winner, Oliver Fussey. As the beneficiary, Koru Care received a cheque from Christchurch Boys High School, which we think is absolutely fantastic. The cheque was presented to Koru Care at a full assembly of the school. Thank you Oliver for your effort, the Koru Care children who will travel on the 2010 Koru Care trip to Disneyland, will benefit because of Oliver’s excellence. You are indeed a fine young man. |
Fight for Youth - Charity Boxing Event
A big congratulations and thanks to Mark O'Loughlin of Baileys who won his bout representing Koru Care in The Fight for Youth Corporate Boxing Event in Christchurch.
The goal was to raise funds for local Youth Charities and Junior Sports Organisations. It is where novice Contenders from well known local companies go head to head…in the ring! Thanks again for choosing Koru Care Christchurch.
